Affiliate Marketing News, September 2026: Network Terms, Payouts, and Compliance After August

August 2026 affiliate marketing news centered on a preventable failure: paying the same commission twice when a local payout status and the provider result disagree. AffiliateWP’s changelog says fixes released on August 14 and August 18, 2026 addressed duplicate Store Credit, Manual, and Stripe retry paths; its August 31, 2026 release kept unconfirmed or ambiguous payments from being resent. Because Shopify’s earning model took effect on August 10, 2026 and Envato marked its affiliate terms revised on August 11, 2026, operators need both the rule version that created a commission and the provider transaction state before approving a retry.

Why AffiliateWP’s August 2026 retry fixes matter

On August 14 and August 18, 2026, AffiliateWP documented two duplicate-payout fixes: repeated “Retry Payout” clicks could create Store Credit or Manual replacement payouts twice, and a failed Stripe retry could resend commissions already paid. AffiliateWP changed the path to pay only amounts still owed and send an empty retry for review, because a local failure label alone could not establish whether the provider had moved money.

AffiliateWP version 2.36.1 then kept unconfirmed PayPal payouts out of the failed-and-repaid path and prevented a second Stripe Connect transfer while the first remained ambiguous. The operating rule is narrow: resolve the provider transaction ID, amount still owed, and settlement result before resending a commission.

Version the rule that created the commission

Shopify’s August 10, 2026 earning model applies a 20% share of the subscription or base platform fee plus 0.1% of eligible online GMV for four years. Shopify’s earning-model FAQ separates qualifying new deals or store transfers from existing stores and ties existing incentives to the terms in effect when a store launched. A current rate cannot reconstruct which cohort and terms created an earlier commission.

Envato’s terms revised on August 11, 2026 combine program terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, Impact platform terms, and offer-specific terms. Because attribution can depend on the offer and payment through Impact depends on required tax and payout information, the commission record needs the applicable contract and offer version, not just a current rate.

InferredShopify’s change concerns its broader Partner Program rather than its separate Affiliate Program. Envato’s current page establishes the August 2026 terms but, without an archived prior version, not a clause-by-clause change. [S2], [S3], [S4]

New payout routes did not remove the state check

AffiliateWP version 2.36.0 added Global Payouts on August 21, 2026 for qualifying Stripe setups in more than 90 countries. Everflow released International Payer on August 25, 2026, allowing eligible non-US companies in Veem-supported regions to fund a USD wallet by regional Wire or SWIFT for payouts to more than 130 countries. Wider reach changes eligibility and funding fields; it does not prove settlement or justify a blind retry.

AffiliateWP’s retirement notice updated on August 27, 2026 says the legacy Payouts Service no longer accepts new connections and is scheduled to stop paying affiliates on September 30, 2026. Built-in Stripe, PayPal, and store-credit paths are the named replacements, so a replacement-path test belongs before the final legacy-service run.

InferredThe vendor releases establish documented availability and the scheduled cutoff, not independently measured reliability, migration readiness, or outcomes for a particular account. [S5], [S6], [S7]

Everflow’s August 6, 2026 Traffic Health V3 release added external-domain monitoring, threat signals, and per-domain alerts, but that tracking-health control is separate from the payout-retry decision. Awin’s 1st-and-15th payment schedule and eBay Partner Network’s disclosure and enforcement rules are standing baselines, not August 2026 affiliate marketing news.

InferredEverflow does not independently measure reduced outages or losses. Awin’s timing is network-specific, while eBay’s disclosure FAQ does not establish universal network or jurisdiction requirements. [S1], [S8], [S9]
The decision
Before the next payout batch, trace one commission from its stored terms through the provider result; if either side is missing, block its retry and repair the record first.
